The Industry and Privatization Directorate carries out administrative and professional activities associated with the industry sector within the competence of the Ministry; proposes and participates in designing of strategic development document within its scope of activities (processing industry, shipbuilding, special goods and chemicals), as well as other strategic documents from the area of economy and overall sustainable development; proposes measures for sustainable industrial development and reducing the impact of industrial plants to health and environment;

proposes promotions and contributes to implementation of industrial property system and implementation of modern technology in industry and economy as a whole; identifies and follows up the factors of industry development policy, as well as restructuring of certain industrial operators; proposes measures associated with the development plans targeting, in accordance with the national development strategy;

follows up and establishes contacts with international organizations an other organizations and associations aimed at exchange of experience in industrial development, cooperates with other central government bodies and institutions competent for science development, scientific – research activities and technology;

designs drafts of laws and other regulations within its competence; pursues administrative procedures and caries out inspection within its competence, carries out administrative and professional activities of implementation of industrial development strategy and industrial policy; draws up reviews and oversees the execution of working plans and industry development; oversees implementation of economic policy and its impact to the industry status and development; indirectly implements laws and other regulations and oversees the implementation of laws and other regulations from its competence; prepares and participates in concluding and implementation of international agreements and conventions which impose certain restrictions, prohibitions, i.e. special safety and planning measures for certain goods and chemicals, instituting special control over its management (safe management procedure), including their development, manufacturing, use, storage, transport, marketing and international trading;

drafts and participates in enforcement of national legislation in the area of special goods and chemicals management, in accordance with the adopted international commitments; cooperates with other central government bodies and legal persons with public authorities in the country and abroad, as well as companies, scientific-research institutions and associations in accomplishing tasks within its competence;

systematically follows up and establishes cooperation with international organizations and UN specialized agencies (UNIDO; UNDP, UNEP Chemicals, EU/UN and others), as well as other international organizations (NATO – Industrial Planning Committee, Middle-European Initiative etc.) for the purpose of experience exchange; makes preparations for implementation of the EU technical assistance projects, as well as projects of other international institutions; carries out activities related to harmonization of national technical legislation within its competence with the EU legislation; proposes and participates in establishing and implementation of necessary technical infrastructure for implementation of technical legislation;

carries out administrative and professional activities associated with the legal issue of privatization of equity, shares, assets and rights in ownership of the Republic of Croatia, making draft decisions an other legal acts, which are, pursuant to privatization regulations and other regulations, in the competence of the Ministry; carries out administrative control, gives opinions and instructions with respect to application and implementation of the privatization related laws and other regulations, carries out other activities within its scope.

Within the Industry and Privatization Directorate following departments are established:

Special Goods and Chemicals Management Department;

Shipbuilding Department;

Privatization Department.
