The Consumer Protection Department carries out activities related to harmonization of national legislation with the EU legislation in the area of consumer protection; prepares drafts of the laws and other regulations from the consumer protection area; gives professional opinions and interpretation with reference to application and implementation of regulations from the consumer protection area, oversees the implementation of laws and other regulations in the consumer protection area;

cooperates with competent consumer protection bodies from the EU area; proposes and follows up, within its competence, the contents of the CARDS projects and other EU programmes, prepares reports for the purpose of systematic informing of government bodies of the level of legislation harmonization for the purpose of EU accession of the Republic of Croatia, carries out activities related to RAPEX system within its competence, including the procedure of informing the other central government bodies, international entities of unsafe products;

proceeds administrative and professional activities relating to the activities of associations and establishing and follow up of the Consumer Protection Counselling Centre; carries out activities related to recording and entering of the Consumer Protection Counselling Centre in the Register of Consumer Protection Counselling Services; assesses the professional competence of Counselling Centre’s employees; issues approvals for operations of the Counselling Centres; provides technical assistance to associations and Consumer Protection Counselling Centres;

cooperates with consumer protection associations in the country and abroad; assembles reports on all activities of associations and Consumer Protection Counselling Centres; carries out activities related to projects of consumer protection associations; supervises the activities of associations and Consumer Protection Counselling Centres; carries out activities related to designing of the National Consumer Protection Programme in cooperation with the National Consumer Council;

follows up the accomplishing of goals and tasks stipulated by the National Consumer Protection Programme and correspondingly reports to the Croatian Parliament; carries out professional activities related to activities of National Consumer Council; establishes and maintains the Central Information System in the consumer protection area; assembles, carries out the statistical data processing and reviews data submitted to the Department by all competent institutions involved in implementation of consumer protection policy;

carries out activities related to education in educational institutions, as well as education of all interested participants in implementation of consumer protection policy; cooperates with associations, other government bodies and institutions, carries out other activities within its scope.

Following divisions are established for carrying out of the activities within the Consumer Protection Department:

Division of Associations and Consumer Protection Counselling Centre and CARDS Programme.
